The Nun 2 leads the worldwide box office for the third successive weekend

Horror sequel The Nun 2 dominated the global box office for the third consecutive weekend with $29.2 million, taking its tally to $204.22 million. Directed by Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Curse of La Llorona), the horror film stars Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet and Bonnie Aarons, reprising their roles from the first film along with new cast members Storm Reid and Anna Popplewell. The film follows Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak (Bonnie Aarons), the demon nun. In North America, the fifth film in The Conjuring Universe franchise topped the weekend chart for the third time with $8.4 million for a domestic total of $69.22 million.
A Haunting in Venice grossed $21 million in its second weekend ($6.3 million in North America) for a total gross of $71.55 million. The mystery threequel, directed by Kenneth Branagh, stars himself as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot alongside an ensemble cast that includes Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio and Michelle Yeoh. In the film, set in the backdrop of post-World War II Venice, Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) attends a séance where one of the guests is murdered and he is forced to use his detective skills once again to uncover the killer.
Expend4bles grossed $20.57M in its second weekend ($8.2 million in North America), taking its tally to $33.87 million. The fourth instalment of the action series, directed by Scott Waugh, stars Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture reprising their roles from the previous films with 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran and Andy Garcí. The film is reportedly made with a budget of $100 million and is likely to end up a major box office disaster.
The third instalment of The Equalizer, directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring Denzel Washington grossed $10.12 million worldwide ($4.72 million in North America) in its fourth weekend. Also featuring Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo, the film follows Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a retired US Marine agent living a quiet life in Boston, who returns to action to protect a teenage prostitute Teri aka Alina (Chloë Grace Moretz) from members of the Russian mafia. The Hollywood vigilante action-thriller has grossed $148.66 million at the worldwide box office so far ($81.26 million in North America).
Oppenheimer earned $8.57 million in its tenth weekend, taking its tally to $925.96 million. The R-rated film, directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Cillian Murphy in the titular role alongside Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh grossed 1.63 million in North America over the weekend, taking its domestic tally to $321.21 million. If not for the R rating, the biographical drama would have crossed the $1 billion milestone by now.
Indian blockbuster Jawan, directed by Atlee, starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, South Indian film industry stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi along with Deepika Padukone in an extended cameo grossed $8.09 million in its second weekend ($964.5 thousand in North America) for a total of $120.86 million. The vigilante action-drama is the second Indian film to cross $100 million this year after January’s Pathaan that also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Chinese film Dust to Dust, directed by Jonathan Li, is the seventh highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office over the weekend with $7.53 million. The crime-thriller, starring Dong Chengpeng and Lam Ka Tung, is based on the true events of the 1995 armed banknote robbery case in China. The film has grossed $56.3 million so far.
Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling grossed $6.6 million in its tenth weekend for a worldwide gross of $1.42 billion. In North America, Barbie earned $3.2 million for a domestic total of $630.45 million.
Biographical sports drama Gran Turismo, directed by Neill Blomkamp, starring Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Darren Barnet, Emelia Hartford, Geri Halliwell Horner, Djimon Hounsou and Josha Stradowski grossed $5.42 million in its fifth weekend for a worldwide total of $110.48 million.
Animation sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, directed by Jeff Rowe, grossed $3.82 million in its eighth weekend ($1.62 million in North America) for a total of $172.66 million.
