The Flash takes the No. 1 spot at the global box office

DC’s The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti, starring Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle and Michael Keaton grossed $130.1 million across 79 territories in its opening weekend at the global box office. The superhero film released to mixed reviews and earned an underwhelming 55.1 million (about $20 million less than projected) in the USA and Canada.

Last weekend’s topper Transformers: Rise of the Beasts earned $57.2 million across 69 territories in its second weekend ($20 million at the domestic box office), registering a drop of over 66%, taking its tally to $274.92 million. The Steven Caple Jr. directorial, starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, revolves around Optimus Prime and the Autobots who join forces to battle Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons. Bumblebee (2018), the previous instalment of the Transformers film series, is currently the lowest grossing film in the franchise with $467.98 million global gross and it remains to be seen if the latest instalment has enough legs to surpass that figure.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continued its impressive performance in its third weekend, earning $55.4 million across 61 territories, taking its tally to $489.38 million. Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson and featuring the voices of Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, the animated superhero film grossed $27.8 million across 3,873 locations at the North American box office. In the film, Spider-Man is catapulted across the multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most. The sequel has surpassed the total gross of its predecessor Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), which earned $384.3 million.

Pixar’s Elemental, directed by Peter Sohn, grossed a disappointing $44.5 million across 18 territories ($29.5 million in North America) in its opening weekend following mixed reviews. The animated romantic comedy-drama, made with an estimated budget of $200 million, is likely to end up as box office bomb for the studio.

Indian epic film Adipurush, based on the Hindu epic Ramayana, raked in $33.18 million across 16 territories in its opening weekend ($2.52 million at the North American box office). Directed by Om Raut and starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, the fantasy action-drama released to mixed reviews with most critics slamming its CGI and runtime.

The Little Mermaid has raked in $26.9 million at the worldwide box office across 53 territories in its fourth weekend – $11.6 million in North America and $15.3 million in international territories, taking its global tally to $465.95 million. Disney’s musical fantasy film, directed by Rob Marshall, starring Halle Bailey in the titular role along with Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Art Malik, Javier Bardem and Melissa McCarthy released to positive reviews with critics praising the performances of the cast but criticising the CGI.

Fast X, the eleventh instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise, earned $11.28 million across 85 territories ($2.02 million in North America) in its fifth weekend. The action-comedy, directed by Louis Leterrier and featuring an ensemble cast that includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Sung Kang, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Scott Eastwood, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa and Charlize Theron, has earned $676.62 million so far. The film is under $50 million short of its predecessor F9 (2021), which earned $726.2 million globally.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, directed by James Gunn, grossed $7.9 million across 53 territories – $5 million in the USA and Canada and $2.9 million in international territories – in its seventh weekend, taking its global tally to $820.86 million. The superhero film features an ensemble cast of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, Elizabeth Debicki, Maria Bakalova, Lloyd Kaufman and Sylvester Stallone. The third instalment is still $48 million short of its predecessor Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), which grossed $869 million at the worldwide box office.

South Korean action-crime sequel The Roundup: No Way Out earned $6.25 million across 7 territories, taking its global tally to $65.67 million. Directed by Lee Sang-yong and starring Ma Dong-seok, Lee Joon-hyuk and Munetaka Aoki, the film is the sequel to The Outlaws (2017) and The Roundup (2022), and is also the third instalment of Crime City film series.

Horror-comedy The Blackening, directed by Tim Story, starring Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Perkins, Antoinette Robertson, Sinqua Walls, Jay Pharoah and Yvonne Orji, grossed $6 million in its opening weekend in North America and is the tenth highest-grossing film on the weekend worldwide box office chart.
