Shazam sequel tops the global box office with $65.5M

Superhero sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods led the worldwide weekend box office chart with an underwhelming $65.5 million gross across 78 territories. The David F. Sandberg directorial, starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel portraying the older and younger versions of the titular character, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou and Helen Mirren grossed $30.5M at the North American box office across 4,071 locations.
Slasher sequel Scream VI, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, starring Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Hayden Panettiere and Courteney Cox, raked in $28.8 million (dropped by 58% when compared to last weekend) across 54 territories, taking its tally to $116.029 million.
Creed III, directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, crossed the $200 million milestone over the weekend. The boxing drama earned $27.27 million across across 76 territories ($15.37 million in North America) in its third weekend, taking its total gross to $224.3 million.
Chinese comedy Post Truth (original title: Bao ni ping an), directed by and starring Chengpeng Dong, is the fourth highest-earning film at the worldwide box office and leads the box office chart in mainland China this weekend with $18.39 million, taking its tally to $50.85 million. The film, that revolves around a cemetery salesman who embarks on a road trip to clear up the rumours surrounding his client, is yet to release in international markets.
Science-fiction action-thriller 65, directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and co-produced by Sam Raini, starring Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt posted $10.9 million in its second weekend. The film has earned $38.82 million so far.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania grossed $7.37 million in its fifth weekend, taking its global tally to $462.63 million. The third instalment of the Marvel superhero film is likely to finish its theatrical run with under $500 million, which will make it the lowest-grossing film in the Ant Man film series. The original film Ant-Man (2015) grossed $519 million and the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) raked in $623 million.
Japanese film Suzume is the seventh highest-grossing film worldwide this weekend with $6.9 million across 6 territories. The animated fantasy adventure, directed by Makoto Shinkai (Your Name), has grossed $121.22 million worldwide and is the fourth highest-grossing film of 2022 in Japan.
Chinese film Revival earned $6.39 million over the weekend, taking its tally to $22.15 million. The crime-drama is yet to release in international markets.
Cocaine Bear posted $5.6 million in its fourth weekend across 59 territories. The Elizabeth Banks-directorial revolving around a huge black bear that goes on a killing spree after unintentionally ingesting cocaine has grossed $75 million so far in global ticket receipts against its estimated budget of $35 million.
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish grossed $4.45 million in its 13th weekend across 82 territories, taking its tally to $470.51 million. The animated adventure sequel, directed by Joel Crawford, released in the UK on 3 February.
