John Wick: Chapter 4 leads the global box office with $137.5M

The fourth instalment of John Wick dominated the worldwide weekend box office chart with a whopping $137.525 million across 72 territories in its opening weekend. Directed by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård and Laurence Fishburne, the action-thriller also led the North American box office with an estimated $73.525 million across 3,855 locations.

Japanese film Suzume, which was the seventh highest-grossing film worldwide last weekend climbed up the chart to take the second position this weekend with $57.714 million across 7 territories following its China release on 24 March, taking its worldwide gross to $182.367 million. The animated fantasy adventure, directed by Makoto Shinkai (Your Name), topped the China mainland box office with 341 million yuan.

Superhero sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods dropped 67% in its second weekend, grossing $21.8 million across 78 territories, taking its global tally to $102.4 million. The David F. Sandberg directorial, starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel portraying the older and younger versions of the titular character, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou and Helen Mirren grossed $9.7 million at the North American box office in its second weekend. The original film Shazam! (2019) grossed $367.8 million globally, but the sequel, made with an estimated budget of $125 million, appears to be struggling to even collect half of the original’s gross and is likely to end up as DC’s biggest box office flop.

Slasher sequel Scream VI, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, starring Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Hayden Panettiere and Courteney Cox, raked in $14.13 million (dropped by over 50% when compared to last weekend) across 54 territories, taking its tally to $139.29 million. The sixth instalment of the film series is on the verge of surpassing the global gross of its predecessor Scream 5 (2022) that completed its theatrical run with $140 million.

Creed III, directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, is inching closer to the $250 million milestone. The boxing drama earned $13.76 million across across 76 territories ($8.36 million in North America) in its fourth weekend, taking its total worldwide gross to $245.88 million.

Chinese comedy Post Truth (original title: Bao ni ping an), directed by and starring Chengpeng Dong, is the sixth highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office with $12.728 million, taking its tally to $72.12 million. The film, that revolves around a cemetery salesman who embarks on a road trip to clear up the rumours surrounding his client, is yet to release in international markets.

65, directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and co-produced by Sam Raini, starring Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt posted $6.15 million in its third weekend. The science-fiction action-thriller has earned $49.03 million so far against an estimated budget of $45 million.

Chinese film The Best Is Yet To Come, directed by Wang Jing, starring Bai Ke and Zhang Songwen raked in $4.5 million over the weekend, taking its tally to $5.69 million.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish grossed $2.93 million in its fourteenth weekend across 82 territories, taking its total global gross to $475.11 million.

Cocaine Bear posted $2.79 million in its fifth weekend across 62 territories. The Elizabeth Banks-directorial revolving around a huge black bear that goes on a killing spree after unintentionally ingesting cocaine has grossed $80.07 million so far in global ticket receipts against its estimated budget of $35 million.
