Insidious: The Red Door leads the worldwide box office with $64.05M debut

Insidious: The Red Door, directed by and starring Patrick Wilson in his directorial debut, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins topped the global box office with $64.05 million across 53 territories. Made with an estimated budget of $20 million, the fifth and final instalment in the Insidious horror franchise released to mixed reviews but is already a profitable venture for its distributor Sony Pictures.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth and final instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise, directed by James Mangold, starring Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas grossed $58.3 million across 53 territories ($26.5 million in North America) in its second weekend (registering over 55% drop from its opening weekend), taking its tally to $247.9 million. The action-adventure film, made with an estimated budget of $300 million, has released to mixed reviews from critics and is unlikely to reach its estimated breakeven figure of $600 million.
Chinese drama Never Say Never, directed by and starring Wang Bao Qiang, is the third highest-grossing film over the weekend with a gross of $53.53 million, taking its tally to $120.26 million.
Chinese film Lost in the Stars, directed by Liu Xiang and Cui Rui, raked in $45.66 million across 4 territories in its second weekend ($802.7k in North America where it released on 7 July) for a total gross of $428.02 million. The mystery-thriller is the remake of the 1990 Soviet film Trap for Lonely Man and follows a man (Zhu Yi Long) whose wife (Janice Man) mysteriously disappears during an overseas trip but suddenly turns up, however her husband claims that the woman in front of him is not his wife and seeks the help of a lawyer (Ni Ni) to solve the mystery.
Pixar’s Elemental, directed by Peter Sohn, earned $39.6 million across 49 territories ($9.6 million in North America) in its fourth weekend. The animated romantic comedy-drama, made with an estimated budget of $200 million, has grossed $251.89 million so far.
Chinese animated action-adventure Chang An San Wan Li, directed by Junwei Xie and Jing Zou, is the sixth highest-grossing film over the weekend with $28.16 million extended opening weekend gross.
Hong Kong action film The White Storm 3: Heaven or Hell, directed by Herman Yau, starring Aaron Kwok, Louis Koo and Sean Lau raked in $17.94 million over the weekend for a total gross of $24.44 million.
Sound of Freedom, directed by Alejandro Monteverde, starring Jim Caviezel, Mira Sorvino, and Bill Camp earned $18.21 million in North America over the weekend. The action film, which released on 4 July, has grossed an impressive $40.2 million so far against an estimated $15 million budget, emerging as a profitable venture for its distributor Angel Studios. Sound of Freedom follows Jim Caviezel, playing a former government agent, who embarks on a mission to save children from a sex trafficking ring in Columbia.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continued to draw audiences in its sixth weekend, earning $17.2 million across 64 territories, taking its tally to $642.24 million. Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson and featuring the voices of Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, the animated superhero film earned $9.2 million in North America. In the film, Spider-Man is catapulted across the multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts grossed $12.6 million across 66 territories in its fifth weekend ($7 million at the domestic box office), taking its tally to $407.72 million. The Steven Caple Jr. directorial, starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, revolves around Optimus Prime and the Autobots who join forces to battle Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons. The latest instalment is set to be the lowest-grossing film in the Transformers franchise as it is unlikely to surpass Bumblebee (2018), which grossed $467.98 million globally.
