The much-anticipated full and uncut version of Pakistani Punjabi film The Legend of Maula Jatt is set to release in UK cinemas this Friday, 2 December. Directed by Bilal Lashari (Waar), the epic action-drama stars Fawad Khan (Khoobsurat, Kapoor & Sons) in the titular role, Hamza Ali Abbasi (Waar), Humaima Malik (Bol, Raja Natwarlal) and Mahira Khan (Raees). Bilal Lashari is also the cinematographer and editor of the film that opened to excellent reviews from critics upon its release on 13 October 2022 and emerged as the highest grossing Pakistani film with a total global gross of approximately $9 million to date.
The Legend of Maula Jatt was originally age-rated 15 by the British Board of Film Classification after the distributor Moviegoers agreed to make some cuts. The film opened in the 9th position in the UK weekend box office chart grossing £315,219 across 78 locations and dropped by just 35% in its second weekend, grossing £203,916 across 66 locations, taking it tally to £747,609.

The Bilal Lashari directorial witnessed a 41% drop in its third weekend, grossing £121,113 across 61 locations but still dominated Bollywood biggies Ram Setu (starring Indian superstar Akshay Kumar) – £80,054 across 113 locations and Thank God (starring Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra) – £89,131 across 88 locations, despite these two Indian films having the advantage of an extended Diwali opening weekend.
The Legend of Maula Jatt has grossed £1.4 million (so far) making it the highest-grossing South Asian film in the UK since Padmaavat (2018).

Distributors Moviegoers have now decided to release the full, uncut version of The Legend of Maula Jatt in select theatres as the film is now seen as a strong contender for a BAFTA nomination in the Best Film Not in the English Language category.
