Boxing dramas galore in Tollywood and Kollywood

Telugu actor Varun Tej (Kanche) is set to play a boxer in upcoming sports drama “Ghani”, written and directed by Kiran Korrapati in his directorial debut. The drama also stars Sunil Shetty (Darbar), Saiee Manjrekar (Dabangg 3), Upendra (Uppi 2) and Jagapathi Babu (Nannaku Prematho). The film is bankrolled by Sidhu Mudha and Allu Bobby, and has music by S. Thaman (Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo).

Kiran Korrapati served as an assistant director in Varun Tej’s 2018 science-fiction drama “Antariksham 9000 kmph”.

“Ghani” is expected to be dubbed and released in Hindi and Kannada languages as well given its strong star cast from Bollywood and Sandalwood.

Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda is also playing a boxer in his upcoming Telugu-Hindi bilingual “Liger”, directed by Puri Jagannadh (Bbuddah… Hoga Terra Baap), also starring Ananya Panday (Khaali Peeli). The film, co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions (Good Newwz), will mark Devarakonda’s Bollywood debut.

Tamil actor Arya (Naan Kadavul) is playing a boxer in sports drama “Sarpatta Parambarai”, directed by Pa. Ranjith (Kabali). The film also stars Dushara Vijayan (Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari), Kalaiyarasan (Madras), Santhosh Prathap (Mr Chandramoulie), John Kokken and Kaali Venkat.

Tamil actor Arun Vijay is portraying a boxer in his upcoming drama titled “Boxer”, helmed by Vivek (Karoline Kamakshi) is his feature film directorial debut.

The film also features Ritika Singh (Oh My Kadavule) and Kannada actress Sanjjanaa Galrani (Dandupalya 3).

Ritika Singh and Madhavan (Tanu weds Manu) played boxers in 2016 Tamil-Hindi bilingual “Irudhi Suttru”, directed by Sudha Kongara (Soorarai Pottru). The Hindi version was titled “Saala Khadoos”.

The film opened to excellent reviews and was successful at the box office. “Irudhi Suttru”/”Saala Khadoos” was later remade by Sudha Kongara in Telugu language as Guru (2017) with several members of the cast reprising their respective roles and Venkatesh (F2: Fun and Frustration) playing Madhavan’s role.
